John signed on a season-long loan from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Friday August 6th- a matter of 24 hours before the Tigers were due to kick off the 2010/11 campaign against Swansea.
This late notice had little effect on the talented teenager, who marked his City debut with a safe bet for goal of the season. Picking up possession from Nolberto Solano on 23 minutes, John produced a sweet turn to find space before rifling an unstoppable effort into the top corner from 30 yards.
18-year-old John has prior experience of Championship football, having started his career at Crystal Palace. After progressing through the youth ranks at Selhurst Park, the attacking midfielder made his first team debut on 29 October 2007 in a 2-0 defeat to Watford. Coming on for the last 20 minutes, the then 15-year-old became Palace's youngest ever player.
The teenager's performances for the Eagles soon caught the eye of Spurs, who paid an initial fee of £700,000 to secure his services in the summer of 2008. Bostock made his competitive debut in a 2008 UEFA Cup tie against Dinamo Zagreb and, at 16 years and 295 days, he also became Tottenham's youngest ever player.
In a bid to gain first-team football, John spent a month on loan at Brentford in the 2009/10 campaign. Making ten appearances for the Bees, the midfielder was quick to get off the mark, scoring both goals in a 2-2 draw against Millwall.
Having featured for England at U-16, U-17, and U-19 levels, John arrived at the KC fresh from the U-19 European Championship. The midfielder impressed in the tournament, scoring a 20-yard volley in England's semi-final defeat to Spain.
