The Tigers pulled off something of a coup when announcing the arrival of Slovenian midfielder Robert Koren in August 2010.
An experienced international, Robert arrived at the KC Stadium fresh from captaining his country at the 2010 World Cup finals. The midfielder played in all three matches during the group stages, including scoring the only goal as Slovenia recorded a 1-0 victory over Algeria.
Robert spent the first eight years of his professional career playing Slovenian League football. After making over 200 appearances for the likes of Dravograd and Celje, the midfield playmaker earned a move to the Norwegian Premier League with Lillestrom.
Making the switch in the summer of 2004, Robert would go onto play 75 times in the Norwegian top-flight. His 19 goals for Lillestrom - combined with his attacking flair on the field - soon caught the attention further afield, as a move to West Brom materialised in January 2007.
Joining a Baggies side that included future Tigers team mate Paul McShane, Robert immediately established himself as a first-team regular at the Hawthorns. Making his debut in an FA Cup victory against Leeds, Robert's first goal for West Brom came in their 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in May 2007.
In his first full season with the Baggies, Robert bagged an impressive 10 goals as West Brom put the disappointment of 2007's Play Off defeat behind them to clinch the 2007/08 Championship title.
Robert remained an integral part of the Baggies' side following their promotion to the Premier League. Although finishing the campaign as West Brom's most-capped outfield player, the attacking midfielder was unable to prevent their slide back into the Championship though.
Not to be disappointed, Robert was one of the Baggies' outstanding performers during the 2009/10 season, scoring eight goals from midfield as West Brom bounced back to the Premiership at the first time of asking.
It came as a surprise to many that the Midland's outfit choose not to extend the Slovenian's contract, but the Baggies' loss was City's gain - as the Tigers beat off reported interest from Premiership, Championship and Serie A club's to acquire his signature.
