After identifying a need to increase City's options in front of goal, manager Nigel Pearson fought off interest from several clubs to capture exciting young talent Jay Simpson on a three-year deal in August 2010.

A player who has received international recognition at both U-17 and U-18 levels for England, Jay is a product of Arsenal's prestigious youth academy. Joining the Gunners at the age of nine, Jay went on to impress at both youth and reserve team levels. The striker made history on 19th February 2007, when he became the first player to score a hat-trick at the Emirates Stadium - bagging all three goals as Arsenal beat Cardiff City in the FA Youth Cup.

Jay's first taste of competitive football came following a loan switch to then League One Millwall in August 2007. Making his debut in the Lions' defeat to Huddersfield on the 1st September, Jay went on to notch eight goals for the club, winning the PFA 'Fan's Player of the Year' award in the process.

Fresh from his success at the New Den, Jay was handed his senior Arsenal debut coming on as a 71st minute substitute in the Gunners' 6-0 League Cup win against Sheffield United. Handed a start in the following round, the pacey front-man scored a brace as a young Arsenal side overcame Wigan 3-0 at the Emirates.

Following the Gunners' departure from the competition at the hands of Burnley, Jay was given the opportunity to further develop his game with a loan move to Premier League West Brom. Signing for the Baggies on 1st January 2009, Jay made his debut two days later, coming on as a substitute for future Tigers team-mate Robert Koren in an FA Cup match against Peterborough.

Jay's first goal in the Premier League incidentally came against City on the 31st January 2009. With the Tigers leading West Brom 1-0 going into the second half, the striker levelled matters on 53 minutes after some neat play inside the City box.

Unable to help prevent the Baggies' relegation at the end of the season, Jay was allowed to join QPR for the 2009/10 Championship campaign. Jay enjoyed his best goal-scoring season to date during his time with Rangers, netting 13 times over the course of the season - including a brace in a 2-0 win at Cardiff in September 2009.

Jay's first goals for the Tigers came in December 2010, as his brace proved enough to see off Bristol City 2-0 at the KC Stadium and he went on to bag another brace in the Boxing Day win at Sheffield United.

Jay was loaned out to Millwall for the first few months of the 2011/12 season before returning to the KC Stadium and playing a part in an FA Cup win against Ipswich in January.
