A prolific striker with every club he has played for, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink arrived at the KC Stadium in September 2009 having spent the previous three seasons with Celtic.

However, it was with FC Twente that his professional football career began and he wasted little time in establishing himself as one of Europe's top young strikers. 63 goals in 142 games brought an international debut and unsurprisingly attracted interest from a host of other clubs.

PSV Eindhoven won the race for his signature in 2001 and his impressive scoring record continued with 22 goals in his first season. The next two years were less fruitful, but he returned to his destructive best in 2004/05 as he netted 19 times in 28 matches.

A move to Celtic followed his involvement in the 2006 World Cup and 18 goals helped the Glasgow side to a domestic treble in his first year at Parkhead.

He bettered that scoring record the following season, which included a last minute winner in an Old Firm victory against Rangers, as Celtic once again claimed the league title. He ended the season by playing for his country at Euro 2008.

Vennegoor of Hesselink left Celtic at the end of 2008/09 with 44 goals from 108 appearances.

He spent much of the summer training with former club FC Twente to keep his fitness levels up before finalising a move to Hull City.
