Nigel Pearson wants his players to produce a performance to meet his expectations when the Tigers take on Watford at the KC Stadium on Saturday.
Last weekend's display at Millwall fell well below those expectations but Pearson hopes a week of hard work in training will help raise the bar.
"Last week, we didn't get anywhere near the type of performance I would expect from the players," said Pearson.
"This week has been about getting that out of our system and looking forward to the game on Saturday. We need to perform at a consistent, high level this season to get success and that's what we're aiming for.
"Watford are a hard working side and they've had a decent start so we've got to deal better with the strengths of our opponents and then play our own game.
"There have been a lot of interesting results in the first couple of weeks and we're not on our own in being turned over. The division has already shaped up as being very competitive and open.
"We have to learn from what we've done incorrectly, concentrate on the positives as well, and move forward."
