Phil Brown says he will try to ignore scorelines drifting in from other grounds on Sunday as he knows victory for the Tigers against Manchester United will make them irrelevant.

Although he acknowledges it will be difficult to avoid news from Villa Park, the Stadium of Light and Upton Park, Brown is concentrating his efforts on leading his own side to three points.

"As long as we do the job, that is the main thing," said Brown.

"There'll be 25,000 mobile phones or radios in the stadium and I dare say somebody will be telling me what the scores are elsewhere.

"But my focus and attention on Sunday has to be on 90 minutes of football at the KC Stadium and nothing else.

"The fans will have a massive part to play. The pressure of the game will manifest itself in different ways.

"Last weekend, I didn't get to know the scores from any of the other games until there were four minutes to go in our game.

"That changed my focus to the fact that we didn't have to win the game because a draw was a good enough result.

"You'd be foolish not to understand that there are activities going on elsewhere that affect the bigger picture.

"At this moment in time, the only thing that will affect the bigger picture is if we win on Sunday."

In a bid to keep his players out of the spotlight and keep them away from the building pressure, Brown has taken his whole squad away from East Yorkshire to focus on Sunday's game.

"We'll take the boys away to get them out of the spotlight and away from the media attention.

"We're heading for a quiet hotel, away from their families and mobile phones. We want to start focussing on 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

"We're going there with our 'family' and that includes Jimmy Bullard, Ian Ashbee and Anthony Gardner because they also have a big part to play."
