Stephen McPhee admits he would love the opportunity to impress former manager Peter Taylor when the Tigers visit Selhurst Park this weekend.

Taylor was the man who brought McPhee to the KC Stadium back in the summer of 2005 and after an injury-plagued two years, the striker is hoping for a starting place after scoring his first league goal for the club on Tuesday night.

"Peter Taylor brought me to Hull but unfortunately, he didn't get to see too much of me!" said McPhee.

"I'm sure he knows what I can do and if I get my opportunity on Saturday, hopefully I can show him again.

"We're all looking forward to the game at Palace and hopefully I can score a meaningful goal this time."

McPhee's strike against Charlton came during added time at the end of the game with the Tigers already 2-0 down.

Although delighted to finally have a league goal to his name, the former Port Vale man was disappointed he didn't get the opportunity to celebrate properly in front of the fans.

"It was good to score, it was just a shame it wasn't the winning goal or an equalising goal.

"It was nice personally, but three points would have been worth a lot, lot more.

"I didn't get the chance to even celebrate because it was late in the game and we needed to get the ball back to try and get a second."

Victory against a struggling Palace side would almost certainly move the Tigers back into the top half of the table and McPhee is confident his side can return home with maximum points, helping to banish his bad memories of last season's visit to Selhurst Park.

"I don't see why we can't go down to Crystal Palace and get three points. It will be a difficult game and Peter Taylor always puts out a good team.

"They'll give 110 per cent even though they're not having the best of times at the moment. It should be a good game.

"I did my hamstring down there last year and I got booked for it if I remember rightly. I went past the keeper and then my hamstring popped, but the referee booked me for diving!

"But that is something I want to forget about, along with all of my injury problems. I want to look to the future and scoring goals."
