Liam Cooper was pleased to be part of a much better defensive effort by the Tigers on Saturday.
The 0-0 draw with Watford saw City keep a second consecutive clean sheet at home, but after the heavy defeat at Millwall a week earlier it represented a pleasing progression.
"I didn't think Watford caused us too many problems," said Cooper, who was making his first start of the season.
"It felt fairly comfortable at the back and I thought we were a little bit better going forward.
"It was a tough game and quite physically demanding. We didn't win, but it was a good performance."
Cooper was also pleased to be handed a place in the starting eleven and hopes he did enough to keep his place for Tuesday's cup game against Brentford and next Saturday's league trip to Doncaster Rovers.
"It's a case of trying to stay in the team now. I want to play every week but I can only do that by performing. The manager threw me in on Saturday and said 'grasp your chance'. I tried my hardest and hopefully I'll be in the team for Tuesday and Saturday.
"Playing again on Tuesday would be good and would also be beneficial for my fitness."
