Matt Duke was disappointed to see the Tigers exit the Carling Cup against Swansea on Tuesday night.

The goalkeeper produced a heroic second half performance to take the game into extra time before finally being beaten 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

"We started the game quite well and we created a few chances," said Duke.

"Credit to Swansea for coming back into the game, but it was very disappointing to lose because it would have been nice to have progressed to the next round.

"They brought a sub on and changed their system a little bit."

Duke made several excellent saves, none more so than from a penalty in added time at the end of normal time.

"I just wanted to save it. The way he shaped to take it, I decided it was going to my left. I went that way and thankfully I saved it. It seemed like a decent penalty to be fair and it felt as though it was heading towards the corner.

"Then they got another penalty in injury time and that's always difficult because they know which way you've gone the first time. I thought the penalty was going the same way, but credit to him, he stuck it in the corner."

If nothing else, last night offered Duke the chance to stake his claim for a place in Phil Brown's Premier League starting line-up and he felt he did his chances no harm.

"I think I've done enough to knock on the manager's door. That's what these games are for. People say it was a weakened side, but I don't think it was a weak side.

"All you can do is your best and remind the gaffer about what you're capable of doing."
