Andy Dawson says there is a real buzz around the club following the 3-1 win at Barnsley.

Victory took the Tigers into the automatic promotion places for the first time this season and Dawson was delighted with the performance of the side.

"We knew we needed a result to get into the top two and we've come away with a fantastic win.

"I suppose everybody at the club, including the fans who were absolutely fantastic last night, is buzzing at the moment."

City took the lead with a Dean Marney penalty midway through the first half and Dawson admitted that settled everybody down after a frantic start.

"It was always going to be a frantic start because of it being a Yorkshire derby and the pitch wasn't brilliant.

"When the penalty went in, it calmed us down a little bit and we started to play a little bit more football. From then on, we were quite comfortable.

"We had a great start to the second half with Ian Ashbee heading home from a corner. It was a great ball in and 'Ash' has made that run hundreds of times this season.

"It was great to see him get on the end of one and it was a good finish. That put us 2-0 up and in a fantastic position."

The win was sealed when Dean Windass scored with his first touch after coming on as a substitute and Dawson was pleased to see the veteran forward end his mini goal drought.

"That's 'Deano' all over. He hadn't scored for a while but you can put your hat on him scoring sooner rather than later.

"It was a great flick by Fraizer Campbell to set him up and Dean doesn't normally miss from there. It was a fantastic finish."

City now face another Yorkshire derby on Saturday when they visit Sheffield United and Dawson says the Tigers will now prepare for another tricky game.

"We've got to get ready to go again on Saturday now. We'll come back to training and focus on Saturday because it's another massive game for us."
