Ian Ashbee felt the Tigers' dominant performance fully warranted all three points against Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Dean Marney and Caleb Folan gave City a 2-0 win at the Walkers Stadium and Ashbee felt their dominance was summed up by the fact Leicester keeper Paul Henderson was in the running for the man-of-the-match award.

"We always felt it was going to be a difficult game because they are fighting for their lives," said the City captain.

"But we were happy to just concentrate on ourselves, give Leicester the respect they deserve and get on with things. It was a good win, but nobody is getting carried away.

"We scored the first goal at just the right time (45th minute). To be fair, I thought their keeper was probably their man of the match. We made sure he had a few saves to make while Boaz wasn't really tested in our goal.

"I thought we deserved to go in a goal up."

It was Marney who got that first goal and despite the midfielder missing a penalty midway through the second half, substitute Folan came off the bench to seal the three points with his first involvement in the game.

"I though that highlighted the quality we've got coming off the bench," added Ashbee.

"He's strong and quick and a problem for defenders when he comes on. He's just like any forward, he wants to get a goal when his chance comes along."

Sadly for Ashbee, his involvement in the game came to an end ten minutes after half time. The captain had picked up a knock during the opening 45 minutes and although he tried to continue, he eventually had to withdraw.

"The ball came across and as I tried to have a shot, yes I did say shot, their lad has tried to block me and that has opened up my ligaments a bit. I've got to wait for the next 48 hours now to see if things settle down.

"I tried to carry on and the adrenalin was going. But there was no point in carrying on and risking further damage."

The win saw City move up to third place in the table and Ashbee admits things are looking more and more positive with every game.

"It keeps getting better and you can't not look at the table. But we're trying to keep our feet on the ground and take each game as it comes."
