Boaz Myhill felt the Tigers failed to play with any pride as they were thrashed 4-0 by Southampton.

A Stern John hat-trick plus a single strike from Bradley Wright-Phillips condemned City to their heaviest defeat of the season and Myhill admits his side need to address their defence after shipping in nine goals in three games.

"Once their second goal went in, it should have been all about playing for pride but we didn't do that very well," said Myhill.

"Obviously the performance wasn't good enough. We've shipped a lot of goals over the last three games and that is something we need to address.

"The over-riding feeling is just one of disappointment. Goals change games and had we got to half time at 0-0, things could have turned out differently.

"We're in for a tough test of character over the coming weeks and we have to start doing the simple things again.

"We have characters with experience in this team and it's time for us to show what we're made of.

"I'm surprised at how things have changed defensively in the last three games. We were doing alright before, not brilliantly and there was room for improvement.

"We'll be working hard on the training ground during this week because we all want to improve.

"The manager has told us how we've let ourselves and the fans down. It wasn't good enough and like I say, we'll get our heads down and work on things."
