Stephen McPhee felt the Tigers proved a point with their 1-0 win at Burnley on Tuesday night.

City's players had come in for heavy criticism after their performance at QPR on Saturday and McPhee was delighted to see his side bounce back with such a positive response.

"We had a point to prove," said McPhee.

"We knew we had to take a look at ourselves after Saturday because we were poor. We had to pick ourselves up and make sure we gave 110 per cent. We had to win our personal battles all over the pitch and try to play some football.

"In this game, if you win your own battles and play good football, you're bound to win."

McPhee felt that Burnley could have few complaints about the results after City dominated large parts of the game and said the belief and persistence of the players saw them come out on top.

They had to wait until the third minute of added time to secure the three points but the striker said he always felt it was a matter of when, and not if, the Tigers would score.

"Some people probably thought the goal was never coming. But we always had belief because we created a lot of chances and played some good football.

"I felt it was a question of when the goal would come rather than if. Michael Turner popped up with it and the lads were chuffed to bits.

"You always have to keep going. The way we played last night was so much better than Saturday.

"Burnley isn't an easy place to go to and come away with all three points. But when David Unsworth got sent off, even though there were only five minutes left, I think the lads knew we would win the game."
