Phil Brown believes Fraizer Campbell's loan spell with the Tigers can help set him up for a career at the top level of football.

The City boss watched the young striker net a first half double on the way to a 3-0 win against Barnsley and believes his three-month spell at the club will be beneficial for both parties.

"Fraizer's only been around the place for three days and he's played two games," said Brown.

"He wants minutes on the pitch. He got that on Saturday but he didn't get any chances.

"Last night he had three or four decent chances, albeit a couple from long range and he took two of them.

"Did I expect him to have such an impact? We all live in hope. He's bright, lively and confident. He has good movement and an eye for goal and that's why we've brought him to the football club.

"You would hope he's got what it takes to play at the top level. He's only 20 and the reason he is here is to get experience at Championship level and then go back as a United player.

"That is the nature of the deal and I understand that. We'll do right by the player while he's here.

"I'm sure the United connections watching last night know what they've got. He showed the bit of class that he has."

Brown was also keen to stress that the team's performance as a whole was up to standard and described it as the best of the season so far.

"It was our best performance by far. It's nice to be able to say we deserved something from the game when we've got something from it.

"That was simply down to what we've been asking for. A little bit of quality in the final third and some clinical finishing.

"Going 1-0 up at this club seems to be a key factor. We did that and quickly followed it with a second.

"People will talk about Fraizer Campbell's performance but I thought Dean Windass led the line like the old warhorse that he is. He played the second half with one eye closed and he's had three stitches just below his eyebrow. The forward partnership worked well.

"But the most pleasing thing for me was the clean sheet. The defenders handled everything that was thrown at them and we fully deserved the win."
