David Livermore feels the Tigers' disappointment at only taking a point from their trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday is an indication of the progress the club has made.

Dean Marney's last minute penalty earned a 1-1 draw with Peter Taylor's Crystal Palace side but having dominated throughout, Livermore felt his team were worthy of more.

"I still think it was a good point for us," said Livermore.

"But after our performance, especially in the first half, I think we were disappointed to only come away with one point.

"That shows how far the club has come - the fact that we've come to Selhurst Park and we're disappointed with a draw.

"I think the game kind of summed up the story of the season so far. We need to start scoring when we're on top because we don't seem to be doing that at the moment.

"But then again, I don't think there will be too many sides that go to Palace and win, so a draw is not a terrible result."

Livermore admitted to being surprised when Palace took the lead just nine minutes from time and believed City should have already been at least one up by that point.

"I think you have to give us credit because in the first half we knocked the ball around quite well and we were unlucky not to go in at half time one or two in front.

"They came out in the second half a lot quicker and looked a threat. But I thought we'd weathered the storm and we looked like the team that would score.

"When they scored first, it was a bit of a surprise."

Saturday saw Livermore make his first league start of the season in place of the suspended Ian Ashbee and having produced an effective display, the midfielder believes he has two more games to prove his is worthy of a regular starting berth.

"I knocked on the manager's door a few weeks ago and asked why I wasn't playing. He gave me his reasons and then on Saturday he told me to go out there and show why I should be in the team.

"Hopefully I've done that and hopefully I did enough to make sure I'm in the team for the next game.

"But team selection is out of my hands. That comes down to who is performing. I think I've performed as well as anybody in training, I thought I performed as well as anybody during pre-season and I was obviously disappointed not to be in the side at the start of the season.

"That's why I was knocking on the manager's door and asking why I wasn't playing. I just have to get on with it, work hard and hopefully, like on Saturday, take my chance."
