Bryan Hughes believes the Tigers were unlucky not to take something from the game against his former club Charlton on Tuesday night.

The Tigers lost the game 2-1, with both sides having a man sent off, but Hughes felt City matched a side many people are tipping for promotion.

"Everybody is disappointed because we lost, but we kept battling," said Hughes.

"They are tipped to be one of the top teams in the league, but we matched them in all departments and I thought we were unfortunate not to come out of the game with something.

"I think we dominated the first half, but we were the home side so we should come out firing. We should have gone in 1-0 up ourselves at half time, but it wasn't to be."

Although both sides were reduced to ten men, Hughes admitted Charlton adapted to their loss better and improved in the second half.

"They got better in the second half. We both only had ten men, but I thought they used the space a bit better than us.

"It was just one of those games. It was certainly an eventful game and it went from end to end."

Hughes says City will now take the positives from their performance and look to bounce back against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

"We'll take the positives from last night to Crystal Palace. We feel as though we're playing well at the moment, even though we lost to Charlton.

"Anybody can beat anybody in this league and we know we're capable of going to Palace and getting a win."
