The Tigers are in the draw for Third Round of the FA Cup for the first time in five years thanks a convincing 4-0 win over Macclesfield at the KC Stadium.
A brace from Delroy Facey and one apiece for Ryan France and Stuart Elliott secured the win and the Tigers will now have to wait until tomorrow afternoon before finding who they will face in the FA Cup Third Round.
After a slow start to the game it was the visitors that came the closest to taking the lead when Danny Whitaker crashed a long-range effort against the bar but with 28 minutes gone it was Peter Taylor's side that opened the scoring through France.
It took the Tigers only six minutes to extend their advantage when Facey latched onto a loose ball and found the back of the net from close range after Elliott's effort had been spilt by Macclesfield keeper Steve Wilson.
Elliott then got in on the act and made three goals in the space of ten minutes when he smashed an effort from the left side of the visitors' penalty area past Wilson and into the bottom corner to give the Tigers a three-goal advantage at the break.
The Tigers came out for the second half in the same mood though and it just 63 seconds to add the fourth when Facey finished off a counter attack involving France and Nick Barmby.
There were no more goals after that but worryingly for Tigers boss Peter Taylor, Boaz Myhill had to leave the pitch early following a blow to the head after a challenge with Macclesfield's Jonathan Parkin five minutes from the end.
Peter Taylor made three changes from the side that had beaten Brentford 2-0 in the league last weekend.
One was enforced with Stuart Green failing to recover from a calf injury sustained in last weekend's game to be considered which meant he was replaced on the right wing by Ryan France.
Michael Keane took Junior Lewis' place in the centre of the midfield whilst Delroy Facey was fit enough to start after fully recovering from a hamstring injury which meant that Jon Walters took a seat on the bench.
The Tigers started proceedings but the first action of the game was a free kick to the visitors in the City half in the opening minute.
However, Macclesfield wasted the opportunity to create something as Boaz Myhill commandingly claimed Tommy Widdrington's set-piece.
The Tigers then almost created the first real opening of the game after 5 minutes after some neat passing play.
France played the ball in from the wing after turning his man well to find Facey.
Facey lost marker with a quick turn and immediately looked to play in Stuart Elliott with a delicate chipped ball but it was cut out by Simon Weaver who managed to head the ball back to Steve Wilson.
City won the first corner of the game a minute later when Michael Welch tackled Barmby.
Dawson crossed the ball in and Damien Delaney managed to get his head to the ball but couldn't direct it goalwards as it sailed wide of Wilson's right hand post.
Facey then had the first shot of the game after ten minutes when he latched onto to Ashbee's through ball.
The City striker used his pace to beat the Macclesfield defence to the ball but Wilson came out quickly and spread himself well to block Facey's right-footed effort with his legs.
France then wasted a good opportunity to release Facey when his lofted pass went over the Macclesfield defence but straight into hands of Wilson.
Macclesfield then came within inches of taking the lead after 15 minutes.
With the Tigers' defenders backing off, Danny Whitaker had time to line-up an effort on goal and his right -footed strike from twenty-five yards beat Myhill but cannoned off the top of the bar and went behind for a goal kick.
Parkin then tried his luck from the edge of the area two minutes later but his shot was deflected behind for a corner.
Harsley swung the ball into the danger area but the danger was averted with good claim from Myhill in front of two Macclesfield attackers.
However, City then went straight up field and won a corner when Barmby's goalbound effort was directed behind.
The Tigers then produced a routine they'd obviously practiced on the training ground as Ashbee stepped over Keane's short corner allowing the ball to run through to Barmby.
With the ball bouncing Barmby struck a sweet half-volley that went just inches over the bar following a deflection off a Macclesfield defender.
Delaney was the next to have an effort on goal but the Tigers' centre-back was way off target as he sent the ball high and wide from twenty-five yards causing no problems for Wilson.
City were then awarded a free-kick after 27 minutes when Facey was tripped in the middle of the visitors' half.
Dawson crossed with his left foot and the ball the Macclesfield defence running back towards their own goal but a good header from Weaver sent the ball behind the goal.
From the resulting corner the Tigers took the lead through France.
Dawson crossed and Facey flicked the ball on at the near post only for Welch to head the ball away.
However it didn't clear the box and France controlled the bouncing ball before producing a good finish to direct the ball past Wilson and into the bottom corner.
Two minutes after the restart the visitors were awarded a free-kick when Keane brought down Harsley but once again they wasted the chance to cause problems for the Tigers' defence as the set-piece went straight out for a goal kick.
The Tigers then extended their lead after 34 minutes when Facey slotted home from close range.
Elliott had done the hard down the left beating two Macclesfield defenders before drilling a left-footed shot on target.
Wilson could only manage to parry the ball and unfortunately for the former City keeper it went straight into the path of Facey who sent the ball into the roof of the net from six yards.
After winning possession from the restart Elliott was then taken from behind by Carragher who should've been booked for the challenge but the referee decided that a warning was enough punishment.
Elliott then made it three-nil to the Tigers after 38 minutes.
The Northern Irishman went on another run down the left flank beating two opposing defenders once again.
With Carragher in front him, Elliott made just enough space for the shot and produced a low effort that went straight through the hands of the diving Wilson and nestled into the bottom corner much to the delight of the home crowd.
Cort had a chance to get his name on the scoresheet after 42 minutes when Dawson crossed but the centre-back couldn't connect properly and his header went wide.
Potter then almost played his side into more trouble with a poor back pass but Wilson was alert enough to come off his line and clear.
Barmby took a quick throw-in and Joseph hit an effort from twenty-five yards that beat Wilson but went into the side-netting much to the dismay of the Tigers' right-back.
Another lovely passing move involving Dawson, Barmby and Elliott saw the ball come to France who tried the release Facey on goal but the outstretched leg of Widdrington just managed to divert the ball.
Half Time: Tigers 3 Macclesfield 0
Macclesfield boss Brian Horton made one change at the break taking off John Miles and replacing him with Matthew Tipton.
The Tigers made the best possible start to the second half with Facey netting his second and Tigers fourth just 63 seconds after the restart.
Barmby laid the ball to France on the half way line and the Tigers' winger broke through the Macclesfield backline before setting up Facey who was in plenty in space towards the right hands side of the visitors' box.
Facey decided against taking a touch and sent a thunderous right footed shot past a helpless Wilson.
The Tigers' striker then missed a wonderful chance to bag his hat-trick when he was played through by Barmby but could only shot at Wilson with only the Macclesfield to beat.
Peter Taylor then made his first change of the game after 52 minutes.
Nick Barmby was taken off and replaced by Jon Walters.
Facey was again involved in the Tigers next attack a minute later when he burst down the left before pulling the ball but unfortunately he couldn't find a team-mates with Walters and France looking for a ball across the face of the goal.
Whitaker then blasted a volley high over the bar from twenty yards when he should've at least made Myhill work.
The Tigers won a corner following a well-worked free-kick routine that made Potter head behind his own goal.
Dawson crossed and Cort was the first to the ball but the visitors finally managed to clear their lines through Carragher.
Despite being four down the visitors kept playing some passing football which led to the ball reaching Sheron just outside the Tigers' area.
The Macclesfield striker attempted to curl the ball into the bottom but Myhill was up to the task and made a smart save down to his left.
Peter Taylor then made his second change of the game on the hour mark taking off skipper Ian Ashbee and bringing on Junior Lewis.
City were then awarded a free-kick just outside the Macclesfield area when Facey was bundled over after 64 minutes.
Keane stood over the ball but delayed taking the set-piece allowing Dawson and Joseph to break free from the wall.
Keane laid the ball off and Joseph whacked a right-footed shot just inches over the bar from twenty yards.
Carragher was shown the yellow card after 65 minutes for a needless tackle on Keane in the corner.
Dawson's first cross was blocked but as the ball came back out to him he sent a deep ball to the back post where Parkin was on hand to head behind.
Keane took the corner kick but nothing came from it and the referee gave the visitors a free-kick for pushing.
The Tigers were clearly on top on full of confidence at this point and it was showing in their passing play.
However, the visitors broke after 69 minutes and Parkin was allowed to get a shot on target but once again Myhill made the save with the shot coming straight at him.
Walters nearly added a fifth for the Tigers after 72 minutes when he was first onto Joseph's cross at the near post but his header went just wide of the top corner.
Walters tried his luck again two minutes later from France' cross after a Tigers free-kick but Wilson was well placed and made a comfortable save.
The Tigers then made their third and final change of the game after 76 minutes when Jason Price replaced Delroy Facey.
Parkin then had the visitors' best chance of the game so far straight after the change had been made when the ball came through to him but he sent a weak effort straight at Myhill from twelve yards.
France broke from his own half after good work from Joseph at the back two minutes later.
France played the ball down the line for Walters to chase and the substitute collected the ball on the touchline.
Coming inside, Walters beat one man but just couldn't make the room for a shot allowing the Macclesfield defence to clear their lines.
Myhill was then involved in hefty collision with Parkin as the Macclesfield striker went up for a cross.
There was a lengthy delay as the Tigers' keeper received treatment and it became clear that he could no longer continue.
Having made all three allowed changes the Tigers were forced to finish the remainder of the game with ten men and Joseph took over from Myhill between the posts.
Despite being a man down the Tigers continued to cause problems for the Macclesfield defence with Walters latching on to Keane's ball.
Walters came inside beating his marker and did well to get a shot on target but it went straight at Wilson who gathered the ball on the second attempt.
Brian Horton made his second change in stoppage time taking off Jonathan Parkin and bringing on Tommy Rooney.
