A Great Opportunity - Gerrard

Posted on: Wed 01 Sep 2010

Anthony Gerrard is keen to make the most of his opportunity after joining the Tigers on loan from Cardiff on transfer deadline day.

Gerrard, who arrived just ahead of the 6pm deadline after Anthony Gardner moved out to join Crystal Palace on loan, is looking to make an impact and is out to impress in his new surroundings.

"I'm only 24 and I don't just want to sit and rot on the bench," Gerrard told TIGERS Player.

"I need to be out playing football and I think the manager (at Cardiff) understood that. That's why he gave me the opportunity to come to this fantastic club.

"Hopefully I'll have the chance to play regular football here and through that, I want to help Hull City progress and have a good season.

"We've got the squad to do that, it's just a case of everything gelling together and kicking on. There's a good mix of young and experienced players, which is what you need and I think that bodes well for the season."

While delighted to be in Hull, Gerrard admits Tuesday afternoon was something of a whirlwind after only hearing of the Tigers' interest after finishing training down in South Wales.

"I finished training at two and got a phone call to say that Hull City had enquired about taking me on loan. I said 'no problem' because obviously I want to be playing football and hopefully I will get that chance here.

"It was a surprise because before that I was just expecting to go home, have my tea and see my family."

Gerrard can expect a quick return to Cardiff with the Tigers' next fixture taking them to the Cardiff City Stadium and it's a date the former Everton and Walsall defender is already eagerly anticipating.

"I'm looking forward to going back there with Hull City. Hopefully I can show some good form and some good consistency."
