Juniors Enjoy Big Win - Full Report

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Hull City Juniors recorded their second win of the season with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Burton Albion at Ideal Standard on Saturday.

Billy Russell was only able to name four substitutes for the game after Tom Bennett was forced to pull out of the squad just before the game and join full backs Adam White and Henry Gill on the injury list. The Tigers were also missing Fran McCaffrey who was away on international duty.

City went ahead with only eight minutes on the clock when Ray Ford did well on the left side of the box before firing a low right foot shot past Brewers keeper Tom Spence.

Burton were almost level within minutes when Ben Minshull was sent clear and rounded City keeper Bill Ward. His left foot shot was bound for the bottom corner until Jordan Holt slid in and put the ball behind for a corner.

Minshull then twice tested Ward with long range shots but both times the City keeper was up to the task.

City doubled their lead in the 26th minute as Dougie Wilson headed in Joel Shortland's cross from the left.

Paul McElroy was off target with a header from Conor Townsend's centre and right on half time the Irish winger saw his shot saved by Spence after collecting Danny East's through ball.

Jules Gabbiadini was introduced at right back for the second period with East suffering from a hamstring problem.

Lewis Clarkson's free kick created the Tigers' first chance after the break but McElroy headed over and the same player was then too high with a left foot shot from the edge of the box after receiving Shortland's pass.

Clarkson's pull back then provided Wilson with a shooting opportunity but Spence pulled off a good save low to his left and the Brewers keeper had to be alert to tip over Townsend's free kick from the halfway line.

Burton suffered a further setback when Spence had to be stretchered off following a brave save at the feet of Clarkson and so Craig Hill had to stand in between the sticks.

City substitute Tyler Collishaw almost scored within seconds of coming on but his lob over the advancing keeper came back off the post.

Hill then produced an excellent save to turn Shortland's shot over the bar but the Tigers added a third goal in the 77th minute. McElroy centred from the left and Fraser Papprill powered a header into the net.

Papprill then met another McElroy cross but this time could not keep his shot down and fired over the bar.

However, City did claim a fourth goal in the 87th minute when Shortland's cross was bundled into the net by Collishaw.
