Phil Brown admitted the way in which the Tigers collapsed during the second half of Sunday's game against Everton was unacceptable.
City were thrashed 5-1 at Goodison Park and although they were still in the game at half time thanks to Tom Cairney's first Premier League goal, Everton went on to dominate the second 45 minutes.
"I felt as though the midfield three of Everton ran the show in the first half, although we were still in the game at half time," said Brown.
"We came out in the second half and didn't get to grips with their midfield. Arteta ran the show, scored two goals and maybe could have taken home the matchball.
"The way we collapsed in the second half was unacceptable. We didn't make Everton play and when that happens, a good side will often exploit you and Everton did that.
"We need to bring to the table what got us here in the first place, what got us out of the Championship and what kept us in the Premier League last year. That was fight, determination, desire, drive and a belief in Hull City.
"None of that was on show in the second half on Sunday."
