Marney Pleased With Performance

Posted on: Thu 30 Jul 2009

Dean Marney refused to let his penalty shoot-out miss spoil his evening after the Tigers progressed through to the Barclays Asia Trophy Final.

The midfielder saw his spot-kick saved, although City eventually triumphed 5-4 over Beijing Guoan and Marney, who produced a near man-of-the-match display is delighted to have a final against former club Tottenham Hotspur to look forward to.

"I thought we did well on the night," said Marney.

"We were playing in conditions that we had never experienced before but our fitness levels are superb and I thought that showed.

"It's difficult when you play sides like Beijing because they are used to playing in these conditions every week. We didn't really know what to expect from them and they made it difficult for us in the second half.

"We played some good football, especially in the first half. Everybody is just working hard to make sure they are ready for the first game of the season. As a player, you have to treat these games as though they are the first of the season.

"Of course I'll step up to take a penalty again, missing was just one of those things."
