Tigers Earn Draw
Hull City twice came from behind to earn a point from a 2-2 draw against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers responded with goals from Michael Turner and a late effort from substitute Dean Windass, although some gave it as an own goal by Noe Pamarot.
Phil Brown selected an unchanged starting line-up for the game.
The only change in the squad came on the bench with Windass coming in for Caleb Folan. Portsmouth were without England striker Jermain Defoe, although Peter Crouch did start.
It was a chilly afternoon on the South Coast as City played towards the 1,800 fans who has made the trip from Hull during the first half.
City could have found themselves behind as early as the second minute as Papa Bouba Diop met Glen Johnson's cross and sent a header crashing against the underside of the bar. The ball looked as though it had bounced down behind the goal-line, but with the assistant referee so far behind play and unable to see, it proved to be a let-off for the Tigers.
City were all over the place defensively in the early stages and when Portsmouth returned a cleared corner into the box, Boaz Myhill had to punch the ball away from the head of Crouch.
Crouch had another chance in the tenth minute when John Utaka crossed from the Pompey left, but the tall striker headed over.
Portsmouth got the goal they deserved in the 20th minute. Younes Kaboul crossed from the left, leaving Crouch with a simple header from close range.
City should have been level two minutes later when Daniel Cousin played in Marlon King, but the striker took too long to take a strike at goal and allowed Sylvain Distin to make a superb tackle.
Pompey then missed a great opportunity to make it 2-0 when Crouch headed the ball back across goal for Bouba Diop, who somehow managed to miss the target from three yards out.
The Tigers had a half-chance on 30 minutes when David James flapped at George Boateng's cross, but Dean Marney couldn't get enough power on his header and the defence managed to clear.
King then missed another opportunity, firing wide after the ball had broken to him off Boateng.
It was the same player who missed City's next opening, volleying wide from the edge of the box after Cousin had flicked the ball on.
City came so close to levelling a minute before the break when Geovanni smashed the ball towards goal from fully 30 yards out, only to see it come back off the angle of post and bar.
Half Time: Tigers 0-1 Portsmouth
City started the second half in positive mood and equalised from a corner on 54 minutes. Marney's delivery was flicked on at the near post by Kamil Zayatte and Michael Turner was the man to profit, heading home at the far post.
The Tigers almost went in front moments later when King set up Marney, but his low shot was well saved by James. Ian Ashbee then blazed over the bar from Cousin's pass when he should have done much better.
Portsmouth responded with a double change as David Nugent and Armand Traore replaced Richard Hughes and Nadir Belhadj.
City won another corner on 61 minutes. Marney's cross was this time met by Ashbee, who headed home.
The home side went back in front on 63 minutes with a magnificent goal from Johnson, who volleyed home from 30 yards after City had cleared a corner.
Portsmouth could have extended their lead six minutes later, but Myhill denied Utaka with a good save low to his right.
Ashbee needed treatment following an aerial clash with Bouba Diop before City made a double change. Windass replaced King while Peter Halmosi came on for Boateng.
Utaka missed a great chance to score on 74 minutes and it proved to be his last touch as he was replaced by Kanu seconds later.
City's final change saw Stelios come on to make his debut, replacing Marney. Seconds later, Geovanni's free kick was saved by James.
Bouba Diop picked up the first yellow card of the game after fouling Stelios as he looked to set up a City attack and he was followed into the book by Windass who committed a similar offence.
Typically, though, it was Windass who got City's equaliser two minutes from time when Pompey failed to deal with a Stelios corner. Turner's weak effort looped up over James and Windass bundled the ball home from close range with the aid of a deflection. Although some will give it as an own goal, it was hard to deny Windass his moment of glory.
Five minutes of time were added with both sides looking for a winner.
