Hull City AFC have signed up to the campaign to highlight the plight of the world's tiger and help save the animal from extinction.

The Championship side, who are famously nicknamed 'The Tigers', have today announced their support of '21st Century Tiger', a unique wild tiger conservation partnership between the Zoological Society of London and Global Tiger Patrol.

Established in 1997, 21st Century Tiger raises funds for tiger conservation projects in the field and is one of the top six wild tiger funding agencies globally, contributing over £1 million, to date, to over 65 tiger projects in six countries worldwide.

Three sub-species are already extinct; the remaining are classed by the World Conservation Union as endangered.

By supporting 21st Century Tiger, Hull City AFC will promote 21st Century Tiger's work and website through its own marketing channels including publications and a future match day promotion at the KC Stadium.

Hull City chairman Paul Duffen said: "Tigers are one of the most easily recognisable, culturally important and emotive creatures in the world. Yet they are critically endangered.

"The link between Hull City AFC and 21st Century Tiger is there for everyone to see and we feel it is extremely important to support this organisation, which aims to protect and conserve the very species that has lent itself to our brand for the past 100 years."

100% of all donations received go directly to support wild tiger conservation projects which are comprehensively vetted to ensure that they have sound practical conservation and/or scientific credibility, and are making a fundamental contribution to the conservation of wild tigers.

A spokesperson for 21st Century Tiger added:   We are most grateful to Hull City Football Club for championing our cause and look forward to teaming up, working towards the same goal of giving wild tigers the strongest defence for a long and successful future.
