Hull City became Crawley Town's latest FA Cup victim as the League Two side won 1-0 at the KC Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The only goal of the game came in the 57th minute from Matt Tubbs.
As in the last round, Nick Barmby made seven changes to his side, the most notable of which saw Josh King come in to make his first start for the club, Danny East make only the second appearance of his senior career and Liam Cooper handed another chance to impress at the centre of defence.
Joe Dudgeon, Tom Cairney, Richard Garcia and Matty Fryatt also came into the starting eleven.
Former City loanees Michel Kuipers and Hope Akpan were on the bench for Crawley.
Backed by a vociferous following, Crawley made a bright start with David Hunt's long throws offering a particular threat.
King's first involvement saw him go on a powerful down the left, but his final pass just failed to pick out Fryatt in the six-yard box.
It was Crawley's Tubbs who went the closest to opening the scoring in the opening 20 minutes with an acrobatic effort that went wide.
Tubbs almost got the better of Vito Mannone in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper recovered to claim the ball after the striker tried to take it from him.
Mannone then did well to keep Tyrone Barnett at bay after the striker had got the better of Cooper.
City's first effort on goal came on 27 minutes in when Cooper headed Cairney's free kick wide.
East was booked a minute later after tripping Barnett as he advanced towards the City box.
Play was stopped for a couple of minutes after a clash of heads between Robbie Brady and Hunt in the middle of the field. The Crawley man came off worst, but both were fine to continue.
Brady was denied by Scott Shearer with City's best effort of the first half, a powerful low shot that needed pushing round the post.
Jack Hobbs was booked in added on time for pulling back Sanchez Watt.
Half Time: Tigers 0-0 Crawley
City made a change at half time with Aaron Mclean replacing Brady.
Shearer made a fine save early in the second half, tipping over Cairney's curling effort that was heading for the top corner.
Mclean then fired wide as City looked for an improved second half display.
However, only a desperate block from Dudgeon and a fine save from Mannone stopped Claude Davis and then Pablo Mills from putting the visitors in front.
East was the next to produce a vital block before Mannone just about kept Kyle McFadzean's long range shot out.
The goal that Crawley deserved arrived in the 57th minute. Tubbs sprang the offside trap and raced into the area before finishing beneath Mannone to send the away fans wild with delight.
City were almost level three minutes later, but Shearer produced a fine save to keep out Garcia's low effort.
City made a double change in the 65th minute with Seyi Olofinjana and Mark Cullen replacing King and Garcia.
Mannone brought off a good save to keep out Barnett's header and Watt hit the post as the visitors continued to dominate.
Corry Evans picked up the third yellow card of the game for a high foot on Sergio Torres.
Chances were few and far between in the closing stages, although City maybe could have had a penalty after what looked like a handball in the penalty box, but it wasn't to be.
The final chance fell to Cullen, but his goal-bound effort was blocked and City were out of the cup.
