Hull City are through to the Sixth Round of the FA Cup Sponsored by E.ON for the first time since 1971 after claiming a 2-1 win against Sheffield United at the KC Stadium on Thursday evening.

A controversial own goal from Kyle Naughton put the Tigers ahead before Billy Sharp levelled for the Blades.

However, Peter Halmosi netted the winner 11 minutes into the second half and City now face a trip to either Arsenal or Burnley in the Quarter Finals.

The Tigers' line-up showed no fewer than seven changes to the team that started against Spurs on Monday.

Only Sam Ricketts, Michael Turner, Kamil Zayatte and Dean Marney survived.

Caleb Folan started up front with Nick Barmby in support. Bernard Mendy, Peter Halmosi, Nathan Doyle and Ryan France were all handed a chance to impress while Boaz Myhill played in goal.

Ricketts played on the left side of defence and, as he did at Bramall Lane, Marney captained the side.

Sheffield United were the first to threaten.

Brian Howard's fifth-minute cross from the right was met by Greg Halford, but his header went just wide.

City responded and when Halmosi crossed perfectly for Barmby, he could only send a half-volley over from 12 yards.

City's next chance came from a corner.

Halmosi whipped the ball in to the near post where Zayatte met it, but his header went narrowly wide.

A swift counter attack brought City a free kick on the edge of United's box on 19 minutes when Kyle Naughton tripped Halmosi.

The defender was booked for the challenge, but Marney could only drive the set-piece straight into the wall.

The Tigers took the lead on 24 minutes.

Barmby kept Halmosi's deep cross in play close to the right touchline and played a pass to Doyle.

His cross towards the far post was met by defender Naughton and he powered a header passed his own keeper, against the underside of the bar and across the line.

United claimed the ball hadn't crossed the line and, to be fair, television replays showed they had a case.

It wasn't all City, though. Myhill had to be brave to clear his lines with Billy Sharp ready to pounce and the keeper then had to keep out Stephen Quinn's dipping volley.

United levelled on 32 minutes.

Ricketts lost possession to David Cotterill and when the ball was crossed deep, the ball was nodded back across to allow Billy Sharp a tap in from close range.

Mendy went close for City after beating his full back, but Paddy Kenny saved at the near post.

At the other end, City's defence was wobbling.

Zayatte's miss-kick in front of his own goal went unpunished, then  Marney was booked for a poor tackle on Quinn and Myhill's poor punch just evaded Halford.

Meanwhile, Sharp was booked for diving after a coming together with Zayatte in the box.

Half Time: Tigers 1-1 Blades

City had the first chance after the break when Mendy flicked Marney's corner on at the near post, but Barmby couldn't apply the finishing touch.

The Tigers went back in front on 56 minutes.

Doyle played a short pass to Barmby and his superb cross picked out Halmosi, who applied the finish from six yards to bag his first goal in a black and amber shirt.

City went in search of more, but Mendy was off target with a header from Ricketts' cross.

Brown was forced into a change on 65 minutes after Folan picked up a knock, Manucho coming on in his place.

The Angolan striker almost made an immediate impact following Barmby's inside ball, but Kenny came out to block at his feet. Barmby was then replaced by Richard Garcia.

United started to put some pressure on City in the closing stages with plenty of balls into the box.

Four minutes of time were added with Kenny going forward for a late corner, although City defended it well.
