Hull City surrendered a two-goal lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Everton at the KC Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Turner and a Phil Neville own goal had given the Tigers a 2-0 lead in front of another record City crowd at the KC, but two goals in five minutes from Tim Cahill and Leon Osman meant City had to settle for a point.

There were two changes to the side that started last weekend's game at Newcastle United.

The surprise came at the back with Kamil Zayatte replacing Anthony Gardner, who didn't even make the bench.

Up front, Daniel Cousin returned from suspension to make his debut in place of injury victim Craig Fagan.

George Boateng also came back into the squad as a substitute.

There was no place for Dean Windass.

With the pitch in perfect condition, Everton were making their first visit to Hull since January 1964.

The Tigers won an early free kick when Peter Halmosi was brought down by Osman.

On his 150th league start for the Club, Andy Dawson took it, but his delivery was headed away by Mikel Arteta.

A minute later, a great run from Halmosi took him past Osman and Neville before delivering a great cross which was met by Bernard Mendy, but unfortunately his header flew straight at Tim Howard.

At the other end, Marouane Fellaini saw his fourth-minute shot easily saved by Boaz Myhill.

Everton went close in the 12th minute when Neville's pull-back found Osman, but he dragged a low shot just wide of the far post.

Neville's foul on Halmosi then gave City a free kick on the left, level with the 18-yard line, but Dean Marney's ball in was poor and failed to beat the first defender.

A neat move involving Marlon King and Marney in the 17th minute ended with Mendy firing high and wide from inside the box.

There was no doubting that City had made a promising start and they duly took the lead on 18 minutes.

Michael Turner heads in his first goal of the season against Everton.

Marney's corner to the back post was met by Turner and his header went back over Howard and evaded the desperate attempt of Neville to clear off the line.

Everton threatened a quick reply when Yakubu met a loose ball on the edge of the box, but Myhill did well to parry his stinging volley to safety.

City were awarded a free kick in a central position 22 yards from goal on 27 minutes when Halmosi was fouled by Neville.

King took it and sent a fierce shot just wide.

Halmosi was causing Everton no end of problems down the left and he drew another free kick, this time close to the touchline, when tripped by Segundo Castillo.

Dawson's ball in caused problems, but was eventually cleared.

A neat turn in the box saw Cousin create a shooting opportunity for himself, but his effort was deflected over.

Half Time: Tigers 1-0 Everton

Everton made a double change at half time with Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha replacing Leighton Baines and Castillo.

Myhill had to be brave two minutes into the second half, diving at the feet of Yakubu and Saha after City had failed to clear a corner.

The City keeper needed treatment but was okay to continue.

It proved to be a vital piece of goalkeeping as City doubled their lead from a set-piece of their own on 50 minutes.

Marney's in-swinging corner was met by a combination of Neville and Howard and the ball drifted over the line before King could get a touch, despite the PA announcer's best attempts to convince the crowd the goal had been scored by the City striker.

At that point, 2-0 was probably a fair reflection of the game with Everton failing to match the Tigers' fast-flowing, attractive brand of football.

Everton almost found a way back into the game when Saha was sent scampering into the area, but his shot was well kept out by Myhill.

City made their first change on 69 minutes with Caleb Folan coming on to replace Cousin up front.

Everton pulled a goal back with 17 minutes to go.

City failed to clear a ball into their box and Cahill fired home off the underside of the bar.

Despite City's protests, the ball did cross the line.

For the first time, Everton were looking dangerous and Saha was unlucky to see his shot deflect wide off Ian Ashbee before Fellaini was even more unlucky to see his effort from close range land straight in the hands of Myhill.

City's second change came on 77 minutes when Richard Garcia came on for Mendy.

The visitors had claims for a penalty dismissed a minute later when Saha appeared to be fouled by Zayatte, but moments later Everton were level.

Yakubu managed to get to the bye-line before crossing for Osman to net from close range.

City's final change came nine minutes from the end when Boateng replaced King as City looked to hold on to the point.

A mistake by Myhill gave Saha the opportunity to put his side in front, but he fired into the side-netting from a difficult angle.

City won a free kick 25 yards out when Marney was brought down by Fellaini.

The Everton players was booked for the foul.

Rather than shoot for goal, City opted to play the ball wide for McShane and his cross was cleared.

Three minutes of time were added as both sides looked to get a winner.

But neither side could create that final chance and both settled for a point.
