Fraizer Campbell was on target for the second game running, but his goal wasn't enough to guide the Tigers to victory against Colchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Campbell headed home Jay-Jay Okocha's free kick to cancel out Johnnie Jackson's 47th minute opener as City came from behind to claim a point for the third consecutive game.

Phil Brown kept faith with the same eleven that drew at Norwich City on Tuesday evening.

The only change in the squad came on the bench where Caleb Folan replaced John Welsh.

Colchester United included former England international Teddy Sherringham amongst their substitutes.

City did all the early pressing with Okocha a prominent figure in the middle of the park.

But it was the visitors who went close on seven minutes when Karl Duguid's shot from 20 yards beat Boaz Myhill before drifting just wide.

And it was the visitors who threatened again three minutes later when John Jackson got on the end of a superb right-wing cross, but his header from close range flew just over the bar.

City were dealt a blow in the 16th minute when Nick Barmby was forced to withdraw through injury. He had pulled up when trying to get on the end of Okocha's through ball. He was replaced by Dean Marney, who almost instantly brought a save out of Dean Gerken with a header.

After a promising start, the game had turned into a scrappy affair with some poor passing play from both sides.

Colchester were the side coming closest to scoring. On 33 minutes, Clive Platt headed a cross onto the roof of the net with Myhill stranded.

Simon Walton went into the book two minutes before the break for a challenge on Scott Vernon.

Okocha saw his shot from 20 yards go wide but really, the Nigerian should have fed Ryan France who was in acres of space to his right.

In added time City created a great chance as Campbell played France through, but his low shot was saved by the legs of Gerken.

Half Time: Tigers 0-0 Colchester

Both sides made a change at half time. City brought on Folan in place of Walton while Colchester replaced Adam Virgo with Danny Granville.

City's change saw them switch to a 4-4-2 formation with Folan partnering Campbell up front and Marney operating on the left side of midfield.

The change didn't work. Just over a minute in, Colchester took the lead when Jackson fired in a superb shot which found the net via Myhill's left hand and the underside of the bar. If City were going to take anything from the game, they were once again going to have to do it the hard way.

Their route back into the game almost came courtesy of Chris Coyne's back header, but Gerken reacted to prevent an own goal.

It should have been 2-0 to the visitors in the 51st minute when Kem Izzet burst through the middle, but his shot went just past the far post with Myhill well beaten.

Worryingly for City, there was only one team in the game at this point as Colchesrter forced a corner which was eventually cleared.

Kevin McLeod was shown a yellow card on 60 minutes for a high challenge on France as City continued to struggle against their battling opponents.

Ian Ashbee's weak shot was deflected wide as City won a corner in the 62nd minute. Marney's ball in found Michael Turner unmarked, but his header back across goal failed to find a City shirt.

The Tigers levelled in the 64th minute. Okocha's free kick found Campbell unmarked and his superb diving header ended up in the top corner of the net.

City had upped the tempo and when Sam Ricketts' cross found Marney, his flick landed on the roof of the net.

That tempo was short-lived as the game reverted back to the scrappy affair of the first half.

A lack of communication between Folan and Campbell prevented City from having a strike on Gerken's goal as both attempted to strike the same ball. Both of them missed it.

City almost snatched the lead with three minutes to go when Ashbee's pull-back found Wayne Brown, but his shot was superbly kept out by Gerken.

Marney was booked in the final minute for a foul on Izzet as Colchester looked to win the game. The resulting free kick was easily held by Myhill.
