An injury time goal by David Unsworth saw the Tigers go down 3-2 against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this afternoon.

City had earlier fought back from 2-0 down thanks to goals from substitutes Stuart Elliott and Darryl Duffy before the cruel blow at the death.

Peter Taylor made two changes to the side that beat Leeds United last weekend. As expected, both Alan Rogers and John Welsh missed out and were replaced by Andy Dawson and Billy Paynter.

That meant Stuart Green moved into the middle of midfield with Paynter starting on the right. Rui Marques missed out through injury.

City made the brighter start with Craig Fagan causing a real nuisance to the United defence. His quick thinking won his side a free kick early on, but a poor ball in from Ellison was easily cleared.

Keith Andrews had the first effort on goal in the seventh minute. A poor defensive clearance dropped to the Irish midfielder but his low drive from 25 yards went narrowly wide.

Jon Parkin was the next to try his luck, dragging the ball onto his left foot before planting a low shot past the post. He appealed for a corner, but the referee awarded a goal kick.

United were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position when Paul Ifill was brought down on the edge of the box. With the rain lashing down, David Unsworth took the kick and forced a good save from Boaz Myhill.

Ellison forced Paddy Kenny into a good save low to his left with a drive from 25 yards after being set up by Paynter's pass.

Phil Jagielka was given time and space to weigh up his options on 26 minutes before firing over from distance before Bo Myhill [pictured] saved the ball between his legs from a Danny Webber shot.

Moments later, a cross from Unsworth on the left found Rob Kozluk at the back post, but his header went wide of goal.

Webber went close again in the 35th minute, taking the ball inside Alton Thelwell before firing in a shot from 20 yards, but once again, narrowly wide of the post.

A minute later, the Blades took the lead. Michael Tonge crossed from the right and Neil Shipperley got the better of Thelwell to poke the ball home.

Myhill was called into action again on 41 minutes, superbly tipping over from Webber. The City keeper then claimed Unsworth's corner.

Half Time: Tigers 0-1 Blades.

Neither side made any changes at half time and it was the Blades who went on the attack first, the away defence eventually scrambling clear a ball into the box from Unsworth.

The Blades doubled their lead on 52 minutes. Webber crossed from the left and Ifill beat Dawson in the air to head home past Myhill.

City responded by making a double substitution with Stuart Elliott and Darryl Duffy coming on to replace Paynter and Fagan.

The Tigers pulled a goal back on 65 minutes. Green found Thelwell with a quick throw and when the right back crossed, he found Stuart Elliott [pictured] free at the back post and he took a touch before lashing home for his seventh goal of the season.

Moments later, City had loud appeals for a penalty turned away moments later. Kenny spilled the ball allowing Green to nip in. The midfielder appeared to be brought down by the keeper, but the referee waved play on.

Manager Peter Taylor was infuriated, but moments later his expression changed as the Tigers equalised. Green was set free down the right and when he crossed, Darryl Duffy [pictured] beat Kenny to the ball to slide home.

Kenny was injured in the incident and needed lengthy treatment before the game could restart.

City had a great opportunity to take the lead in the 75th minute. A lack of communication between Kenny and Chris Morgan saw the latter clear straight to Elliott 30 yards out, but with the goal gaping Elliott headed wide.

United had an opportunity to restore their lead eight minutes from time when a cross from the right found Jagielka at the far post. He nodded back across goal to Webber, but he had to stretch a little too much and headed over.

City won a corner in the 86th minute. Green's delivery was too long and when the ball fell to Ellison, he volleyed well over the bar.

With just over a minute to go, United went close when a low drive from Unsworth rebounded off the post and out for a goal kick. Myhill was then booked for wasting time.

Mainly due to the injury sustained by Kenny, five minutes of time were added.

Substitute Steve Kabba had a golden opportunity to win the game after being played in by Shipperley. Myhill saved but the ball went behind for a corner.

The ball was played in and after a scramble in the six yard box, Unsworth slid in to put the ball home.

It was a cruel blow for the Tigers that saw their four-game unbeaten run ended.
