Ashbee Talks To CITY Magazine
The June issue of CITY Magazine goes on sale from Tiger Leisure and all participating outlets across the city on Saturday priced £4.99 and features a whole host of Tiger features to keep you entertained through the summer.
As well as revealing the brand new Hull City home strip in full for the first time, the June issue contains an exclusive and open interview with Tigers captain Ian Ashbee.
Ashbee talks openly about his route into professional football via the Cub Scouts, the career-threatening injury that kept him out of action for most of last season and his never-say-die spirit that has shone through during his four years at the club.
"I was always competitive and I was always getting into trouble because of it," said Ashbee.
"I'd never walked away from anything. I hated losing at marbles, knot-tying... everything.
"I don't think you can put that 'spirit' into people. You've either got it, or you haven't. I had it from an early age.
"I don't know where it came from either because I had two sisters and I don't remember fighting them. I daren't ... they'd have half-killed me!"
The June issue also sees Stuart Green, one of the Tigers' longest serving players, answering your questions in 'Under the Spotlight' while we take a look back at a promising season for the City junior side with Head of Youth Billy Russell.
As well as all of that, we carry on the build up to the World Cup as Stuart Elliott previews the tournament, Nick Barmby assesses England's chances and John Welsh gives us his World Cup memories.
The DVD features exclusive footage of the Tigers' official Player of the Year dinner while City manager Peter Taylor reviews the past season.
For this month's classic match we go back to October 2004 when the Tigers met Luton Town in a top-of-the-table clash at the KC Stadium and we also bring you the Match Xtra highlights package covering the final moments of the Championship campaign.
