Billy Russell handed a youth team debut to Will Hann who has only just moved up to the Tigers Under 16 squad. Harry Cardwell and Alex Penny, both also from the Under 16 squad, were amongst the substitutes, as were Ryan Fallowfield and Tom Davie who were continuing their comeback from injury.
Defences were generally on top from the start and both sides struggled to create clear-cut scoring opportunities. Malachi Lavelle-Moore shot wide for the visitors whilst for the Tigers Danny Chambers produced a good turn on the edge of the box only to see County keeper Harry Andrews gather his shot at the second attempt. Joel Sutton was off target with a header and Matty Dixon’s dipping volley dipped too late.
Chambers produced a battling run that took him into the box but again Andrews was equal to his effort on goal.
Half Time: Hull City Juniors 0 Notts County Juniors 0
After the interval Chambers again produced a good run but his tame effort failed to match his build up play.
City won a free kick out on the right and when Henry Gill curled the ball into the box Tyler Guy’s diving header was goal-bound until a superb reflex save from Andrews prevented the County full back from putting the ball in his own net.
The visitors then sent Rommello Nangle away down the left and when he pulled the ball back a goal looked certain but the City defence managed to block the goal-bound shot and following a goalmouth scramble Brad Ricketts completed the clearance.
Sutton then produced a good run but couldn’t get his shot on target and Chambers again saw a shot held by Andrews.
The Magpies created a good chance when Kyle Dixon crossed from the right but Nangle’s far post header was held by Joe Cracknell.
Andrews saved from Sutton and Ben Clappison headed over from a Dixon corner whilst for the Magpies Dixon’s shot was too high and Cracknell saved from Nangle.
However, neither side could find the crucial breakthrough and the game ended goalless.
