Simpson had the perfect impact when coming off the bench to score the winner in the 1-0 victory against Brighton at the weekend and the former Arsenal striker is hoping for many more chances to impress in the first team.
“I just want to get back to enjoying my football again,” said Simpson.
“I’m looking forward to the games coming up. It’s a very long season and whenever I get my chance, I just need to show what I can do.”
Reflecting on his goal, which came just five minutes from time, Simpson felt both Joe Dudgeon and the referee were entitled to some credit.
“’Dudge’ drove down the left and then got taken out by the keeper and it looked like a penalty,” added the striker.
“I just saw the ball coming loose and I thought I’d have a go. Happily the referee played the advantage.
“In terms of the game, you know what you’re going to get when Brighton come to town. They keep the ball well and know how they want to play.
“But we worked on a lot of things in the build-up, like winning the ball high up the pitch and being difficult to play against. It was a difficult game, but we were delighted to get the three points.”
