Two goals from Johnny Margetts and one from Lewis Clarkson helped a Hull City XI to a 3-1 victory over Brigg Town in a pre-season friendly at the Hawthorns on Wednesday night.
As with the friendly at Bridlington Town the Tigers sent a squad of young professionals together with the experience of Bryan Hughes. Trialists Nabil Baha and Tsholola Tshinyama were on the bench for City while former Tigers Juniors Tom Woodhead and Anthony Bowsley were named in the Brigg squad.
Brigg twice went close to opening the scoring with Sonny Bradley clearing off the line from Oliver Chappell and Danny Buttle seeing his left foot strike come back off the post before City took the lead five minutes before the break. Jamie Devitt played a free kick in low from the left and Margetts turned and fired a right foot shot low past Woodhead.
Both trialists were introduced during the break but the hosts drew level ten minutes into the second period. City failed to clear a near post corner and Buttle turned and fired a right foot shot high into the net.
The Tigers restored their lead in the 69th minute when Margetts sent Clarkson clear and he produced a superb left foot chip over Woodhead and into the net.
With five minutes to go City added a third when Hughes was sent through with only Woodhead to beat and he unselfishly squared the ball for Margetts to fire into the unguarded net.
Tigers: Mark Oxley, Will Aimson, Kealan Dillon, Jamie Devitt, Bryan Hughes, Sonny Bradley, Danny Emerton (Nabil Baha 46), Jack Barlow (Tsholola Tshinyama 46), Mark Cullen (Lewis Clarkson 46), Johnny Margetts, Paul McElroy.
